4.3.2026 | The 2026 Finnish State Award for Foreign Translators has been presented to the distinguished Danish translator Siri Nordborg Møller (b. 1981), whose work has greatly broadened the international visibility of Finnish literature. The EUR 15,000 award has been granted annually since 1975 by the Ministry of Education and Culture based on a proposal from FILI – Finnish Literature Exchange.

The subgroups for copyright infrastructure meet in different configurations including workshops to discuss topical issues related to practices on identifiers in the creative field, metadata, technology and infrastructure development, and legal issues linked to data and IP. A draft roadmap has been developed during year 2021. In 2022 focus on NFT's, data protection and EDICs (European Digital Infrastructure Consortium).

28.2.2025 | This year's Finnish State Award for Foreign Translators goes to Sébastien Cagnoli, who has translated a wealth of quality literature from Finnish into French.

27.2.2024 | This year, the recipient of the Finnish State Award for Foreign Translators is Maima Grīnberga (b. 1969), who has been translating Finnish literature into Latvian with distinction. The prize, which has been awarded since 1975, is worth EUR 15,000. The Ministry of Education and Culture awards the prize annually based on a proposal by the Finnish Literature Exchange (FILI).

28.2.2023 | This year, the recipient of the Finnish State Award for Foreign Translators is Claire Saint-Germain, who has successfully translated Finnish literature into French. The prize, which has been awarded since 1975, is worth EUR 15,000. The Ministry of Education and Culture awards the prize annually based on a proposal by the Finnish Literature Exchange (FILI).

24.5.2022 | This year’s Finnish State Award for Foreign Translators goes to Kadri Jaanits, who is well known for the translation of Finnish literature into Estonian. The prize was presented to Jaanits on Tuesday 24 May by Paavo Kotiaho, First secretary at the Embassy of Finland in Tallinn.

3.5.2024 | On 3 May, the Ministry of Education and Culture published the 2024 Bildung Review, which compiles statistical and other information on the administrative branch of the Ministry, its development and situation in international comparison. The themes for 2024 are regionality, life cycle and the fields of education and culture. The objective of the annually published review is to create an overall picture of the extensive administrative branch as a whole.

11.4.2024 | The Kalevala, the national epic of Finland, was awarded the European Commission’s European Heritage Label on 11 April 2024. The European Heritage Label is granted to sites, monuments, documents or events that have a particular significance for European history, culture and integration. The label was now granted to seven applicants.

25.5.2021 | Kirsi Kinnunen, a translator of Finnish graphic novels and other works into French, has been selected as the recipient of this year’s Finnish State Award for Foreign Translators. The award includes a cash prize of €15,000. Kinnunen received her award on Tuesday 25 May from Finland’s Minister of Science and Culture Annika Saarikko. 

6.10.2020 | On 6 October 2020, the Finnish minister of science and culture, Annika Saarikko, granted the State Award for Foreign Translators to the Dutch translator Annemarie Raas. The prize is worth €15,000 and was awarded this year for the forty-fifth time. Raas is the first translator into Dutch to receive the award.

24.11.2017 | This year’s Finnish State Award for Foreign Translators has been awarded to the Polish translator Sebastian Musielak. The prize sum is EUR 15,000. Musielak has translated Finnish literature into Polish, including works by Mika Waltari, science fiction by Johanna Sinisalo and youth literature by Salla Simukka. Minister for European Affairs, Culture and Sport Sampo Terho handed the award to Musielak at a ceremony held in Helsinki on 24 November.

10.10.2013 | Finland has been chosen as the Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair next year. A press conference on next year's programme was held at this year's Book Fair on Thursday 10 October. Paavo Arhinmäki, the Minister of Culture and Sport, opened the occasion. Finland's slogan as the Guest of Honour of the Book Fair in 2014 is FINNLAND. COOL.

24.1.2018 | In order to reform general upper secondary education, the Ministry of Education and Culture has prepared a draft government proposal for a new Act on General Upper Secondary Education in cooperation with a wide array of stakeholders. The purpose of the reform is to ensure that every student has an extensive general knowledge and is well prepared for further studies after completing general upper secondary education.

16.6.2009 | Finland has been invited as Guest of Honour to the Frankfurt Book Fair 2014. The Director Jürgen Boos, representing the Frankfurt Book Fair, the Finnish Literature Society and the Ministry of Education signed the agreements on the project on Tuesday.
