12.1.2023 | The Ministry of Education and Culture has published the first bildung review, which provides an overview of development in the Ministry’s administrative branch over the past decades. 22.9.2025 | The Ministry of Education and Culture’s proportion of the 2026 budget proposal is EUR 8.9 billion, which is some EUR 4.4 million more than in the 2025 Budget. Despite continued pressure on general government finances, the proposal maintains investment in education, research and competence.

23.9.2024 | The Ministry of Education and Culture’s proportion of the 2025 budget proposal is EUR 8.45 billion, which is some EUR 411 million more than in the 2024 Budget. The proposal implements the Programme of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo's Government, which aims to invest, even in a difficult economic situation, in raising the level of education and training and improving the conditions for conducting science, research and development.

27.10.2023 | Minister of Science and Culture Sari Multala will visit New York and Los Angeles from 30 October to 3 November 2023. Her aim is to deepen cooperation between Finland and the United States in culture, science and the creative sectors. Multala will meet with leaders of local cultural institutions and businesses, visit several universities, and talk to people playing key roles in culture, science and higher education.

20.9.2022 | The Ministry of Education and Culture has appointed Riitta Vanhatalo, (PhD), as Director of the National Audiovisual Institute from 11 November 2022 to 31 October 2027.

25.11.2021 | The Government proposes that Parliament approve the revised Council of Europe Convention on Cinematographic Co-Production of 30 January 2017. The Convention aims to promote and facilitate the development of cinematographic co-production between the parties by establishing rules applicable to co-productions.

7.10.2021 | The Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Transport and Communications have appointed a working group to look into models that would broaden the financial base for audiovisual productions. The working group is to explore possibilities of imposing an obligation on actors in the audiovisual industry to invest in Finnish content production.

11.6.2021 | The Ministry of Education and Culture is seeking to boost reconstruction of the cultural sector. Investment in elevating culture and the creative industries and work to underline their social and economic importance are part of Finland’s sustainable growth programme and other initiatives. 1.3.2023 | The reform of continuous learning, launched under the Government Programme, has promoted the opportunities of working-age people to improve their knowledge and skills, and increased the availability of skilled labour. The final report on the reform implementation and on the next steps was submitted on 1 March 2023 to the Members of Parliament who participated in the drafting of the parliamentary policy approaches for continuous learning. 

27.2.2024 | This year, the recipient of the Finnish State Award for Foreign Translators is Maima Grīnberga (b. 1969), who has been translating Finnish literature into Latvian with distinction. The prize, which has been awarded since 1975, is worth EUR 15,000. The Ministry of Education and Culture awards the prize annually based on a proposal by the Finnish Literature Exchange (FILI).

15.1.2019 | During President Niinistö’s state visit to China, Finland has been forging closer links with the Chinese cultural and audiovisual industries. As part of the President’s visit to Beijing, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed on cooperation in the fields of culture and cultural tourism. The ongoing negotiations on film and television co-production agreements also progressed.

10.1.2019 | The survey provides an overview of the (related rights) protection of performing artists (actors, dancers, musicians) in the context of audiovisual productions, in cinematographic films and television. The survey was prepared by the Chairman of the Finnish Copyright Society, Jukka Liedes, and the Masters of Social Sciences Jukka Kortelainen and Milla Määttä.
