The strategy has reinforced Finland’s standing as a responsible steward of world heritage and deepened cooperation between world heritage sites. 12.6.2025 | On 12 June, the Government appointed Kirsti Laine-Hendolin, Master of Arts (Education), to the post of Director General of the Ministry of Education and Culture for the period from 1 September 2025 to 31 July 2030. The Director General is the head of the Ministry’s Department for Youth and Sport Policy.

10.1.2024 | Finland's next element to be inscribed on UNESCO’s list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity concerns the dipnet fishing tradition along the Torne River. The proposal concerning the living tradition along the border river will be prepared in cooperation with Sweden, which will also coordinate the multinational application. The aim is to submit the application to UNESCO in March 2025.

22.1.2025 | Finland has nominated a series of 13 properties designed by architect Alvar Aalto's office for inclusion in the World Heritage List. The properties, named "Aalto Works", represent Aalto's modern and humane architecture. At the request of the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Finnish Heritage Agency has drawn up a nomination proposal, working together with Alvar Aalto Foundation and the stakeholders of the architectural sites.

25.3.2020 | The nomination entitled “Kaustinen folk fiddling tradition and related practices and expressions” has been prepared by the Finnish Heritage Agency in cooperation with the Finnish Folk Music Institute and communities practicing the tradition. Finland’s nomination was signed by Minister of Science and Culture Hanna Kosonen.
