Nordic Baltic Youth Summit to bring together 200 young people from different countries in Helsinki
The Nordic Baltic Youth Summit will be held in Finland for the first time. The summit participants will draft policy recommendations addressing challenges related to the green transition and youth employment and submit them to Minister of Youth, Sport and Physical Activity Mika Poutala.
The summit will bring together 200 young people from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden, Greenland, Åland and the Faroe Islands. The young people represent local youth organisations and youth councils, for example. The event will take place at Hanaholmen on 28–29 November 2025.
“In the Nordic and Baltic countries, we are pioneers in involving young people in decision-making. But even for us, there is always some room for development – and that is why we must keep listening to young people with genuine attention. I look forward to learning about the policy recommendations that the young people will prepare during the summit,” says Minister of Youth, Sport and Physical Activity Mika Poutala.
The conference participants will produce policy recommendations concerning the green transition and the employment situation of young people in the Nordic and Baltic countries, for example. The event will be opened by Minister of Employment Matias Marttinen and Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alain Berset.
At the end of the conference, the policy recommendations will be handed over to Minister Mika Poutala and later to the representatives of the other participating countries.
The event is organised by the Finnish National Youth Council and Youth Sector, and it is funded by the Nordic Committee for Children and Young People (NORDBUK) and the Nordic Council of Ministers.
Background
The summit is a follow-up to the first Nordic Baltic Youth Summit organised in Vilnius in autumn 2024. Over two days, 250 young people worked together to tackle key challenges facing young people in the Nordic-Baltic region.
The summit provides a platform for young people to engage in dialogue and draft policy recommendations for national decision-makers and the Nordic Council of Ministers.
The recommendations will address issues ranging from the rules of working life and entrepreneurship to artificial intelligence, the circular economy and education. The aim of the summit is to help build a more sustainable, inclusive and vibrant future for all young people in the Nordic-Baltic region.
The event is part of the Programme for Finland’s and Åland’s Co-Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2025.
