15.4.2026 | Riikka Pellinen, PhD., has been appointed as an expert in higher education and science policy at the Embassy of Finland in Seoul. Her three-year term begins on 1 August 2026. With this appointment, the Team Finland Knowledge network’s geographical scope is extended to South Korea.

11.3.2025 | Sandra Bergqvist, Minister of Youth, Sport and Physical Activity will be travelling with the Finnish Paralympic Committee to Italy and visit the Special Olympics World Winter Games for athletes with disabilities between 12 and 14 March 2025.

11.3.2025 | The working group on responsible international cooperation set up by the Ministry of Education and Culture has published recommendations that emphasise openness, reciprocity and risk management in international cooperation in higher education and research. The recommendations aim to safeguard academic freedom while also ensuring that international cooperation upholds democracy and ethical choices.

21.1.2025 | Veera Virmasalo, (MA), has been appointed to the post of Senior Specialist in Higher Education and Science Policy at the Embassy of Finland in Pretoria from 14 January 2025 to 31 July 2027. Team Finland Knowledge experts are responsible for monitoring higher education and science policy, promoting cooperation opportunities and making Finnish higher education institutions better known in their designated country.

15.11.2024 | Minister of Education Anders Adlercreutz and Minister of Youth, Sport and Physical Activity Sandra Bergqvist will visit Oslo on 18 November. The ministers will learn about the arrangements, practices and prices of young people's leisure activities, and age restrictions in sports.

23.10.2024 | Minister of Science and Culture Sari Multala will visit London from 24 October to 25 October. During her visit, Multala will meet her ministerial colleague, visit a university and attend various events. The aim of the visit is to strengthen cooperation in higher education and research between Finland and the United Kingdom.

1.10.2024 | Minister of Science and Culture Sari Multala will visit Japan from 2 October to 7 October. The Minister will attend the meeting of the Science and Technology in Society forum, meet key figures in the field of science and culture and learn about topics and places of interest.

30.10.2024 | Minister of Education Anders Adlercreutz will attend the 2024 Global Education Meeting (GEM) organised by UNESCO in Fortaleza, Brazil, on 31 October and 1 November 2024. Brazil is hosting the meeting as part of its G20 Presidency. The meeting will examine strategies needed to achieve the SDG4 Education 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and is expected to adopt the Fortaleza Declaration by the ministers.

16.8.2022 | An updated vision for international activities was submitted to Minister of Science and Culture Petri Honkonen on Tuesday 16 August. The vision is a follow-up to the policies for strengthening the international dimension of Finnish higher education and research 2017-2025, which was adopted during the previous government term.

9.9.2022 | With the Ministry for Foreign Affairs having appointed Sari Tojkander and Johanna Kivimäki as senior specialists in higher education and research to Los Angeles and Sao Paulo, the Team Finland Knowledge network is further expanding. Besides the newly appointed members, the network established by the Ministry of Education and Culture includes seven other higher education and science specialists, stationed in London, Moscow, New Delhi, Beijing, Pretoria, Singapore and Washington.

13.11.2023 | Minister of Youth, Sport and Physical Activity Sandra Bergqvist will participate in the ministerial session of the Youth Forum to be held in Paris on 14–15 November 2023. The Youth Forum will take place during the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO. The aim is to make young people's voices heard and to discuss solutions to improve their wellbeing in the context of climate change impacts.

24.10.2023 | PhD Mika Tirronen has been appointed to the position of Knowledge specialist in higher education and science policy in Singapore. A Knowledge specialist is an official of the Foreign Service who works under the Finnish Embassy in Singapore. The Ministry of Education and Culture is responsible for the position's content-related guidance.

6.11.2023 | Minister of Education Anna-Maja Henriksson is attending the 42nd session of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in Paris on 7–9 November 2023. During the trip, the Minister will also attend a discussion on a UNESCO's comprehensive Global Report on Teachers.

27.10.2023 | Minister of Science and Culture Sari Multala will visit New York and Los Angeles from 30 October to 3 November 2023. Her aim is to deepen cooperation between Finland and the United States in culture, science and the creative sectors. Multala will meet with leaders of local cultural institutions and businesses, visit several universities, and talk to people playing key roles in culture, science and higher education.

2.3.2023 | On Thursday 2 March 2023, the Government appointed the members of the Finnish National Commission for UNESCO for the four-year term from 2 March 2023 to 31 December 2026. The Finnish National Commission for UNESCO is an expert and cooperation body providing advice on matters related to UNESCO.
