In PISA reading literacy means "understanding, using, and reflecting on written texts, in order to achieve one’s goals, to develop one’s knowledge and potential, and to participate in society".
The results of PISA 2000 were released in December 2001. In Finland the process was conducted by the Institute for Educational Research (University of Jyväskylä).
There were 32 participant countries/economies, of which 28 were OECD members.
