26.11.2025 | Formulation of the vision for higher education and research will proceed at a seminar for the management of higher education and scientific institutions in Vaasa from 26 to 27 November 2025. The principles guiding the work on the new vision will be introduced by Minister of Science and Culture Mari-Leena Talvitie. The draft common objectives for higher education and research up to 2040 will serve as a basis for the discussions.

18.7.2006 | Europe will try to exhibit more of the collections housed in the thousands of European museums and to make them more accessible to visitors. The Finnish Minister of Culture Tanja Saarela and Commissioner Jan Figel' will open the discussion at an expert meeting arranged at the National Museum of Finland on 20 and 21 July.

2.3.2018 | The Ministry of Education and Culture will hold a seminar on the development of school day by increasing the supply of after-school recreational activities (extended education) on 13 March 2018. The keynote speakers will be Professor Gil G. Noam from Harvard University (USA) and Professor Sang Hoon Bae from Sungkyunkwan University (South Korea).

3.12.2019 | China-Finland Year of Winter Sports Closing Ceremony took place at Lappi Areena in Rovaniemi on 3 December 2019. Minister of Science and Culture Hanna Kosonen and Chinese Vice Premier Sun Chunlan took part in the celebrations.

10.1.2019 | The year 2019 was designated as the China Finland Year of Winter Sports at the meeting of the Finnish and Chinese presidents in spring 2017. Finland is the first country with which China has agreed on this type of winter sports partnership. The thematic year and the preparations for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing are expected to boost Chinese interest in Finnish winter sports expertise.

3.5.2024 | On 3 May, the Ministry of Education and Culture published the 2024 Bildung Review, which compiles statistical and other information on the administrative branch of the Ministry, its development and situation in international comparison. The themes for 2024 are regionality, life cycle and the fields of education and culture. The objective of the annually published review is to create an overall picture of the extensive administrative branch as a whole.

19.6.2024 | Minister of Youth, Sport and Physical Activity Sandra Bergqvist and representatives of cities, various organisations and young people met at a round table event on Wednesday 19 June to discuss the inclusion and leisure activities of multilingual young people. The aim of the event was to find concrete measures to increase multilingual young people’s inclusion and opportunities for leisure activities.

23.1.2024 | Minister of Education Anna-Maja Henriksson, Minister Youth, Sport and Physical Activity Sandra Bergqvist and Minister of Science and Culture Sari Multala together with the Ministry's specialists will be present for several sessions at Educa on 26 and 27 January.

6.12.2023 | The Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage has inscribed the knowledge, craft and skills of handmade glass production on the UNESCO’s Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. In Finland, the Ministry of Education and Culture is in charge of matters related to intangible cultural heritage and the Finnish Heritage Agency is responsible for implementing the Convention and coordinating the application processes.

25.1.2024 | Minister of Science and Culture Sari Multala will attend the opening day of the Tartu Capital of Culture year on Friday 26 January. During her visit, the Minister will also meet the Ministers of Culture of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and the European Commissioner for Culture.
