Media Literacy and Democracy Education for Societal Resilience

The conference is a part of the Finnish and Ålandic Co-Presidency in the Nordic Council of Ministers.

The event will be held at Helsinki Central Library Oodi on September 18 and 19. 

The conference is aimed at experts and policymakers working in media literacy, education, teacher training, lifelong learning, youth sector and public libraries.

Themes of the conference include: 

  • Promoting media literacy and civic skills as part of lifelong learning
  • Role of media literacy and democracy education in fostering active citizenship, countering disinformation and misinformation, and encouraging respectful public dialogue
  • Inclusion as a cornerstone of diverse public discourse and democratic progress: How can we make this a reality?
  • State of play in the Nordic countries: How are our societies supporting citizens' media literacy and democratic skills in a digital world from childhood to adulthood? This includes examples of ongoing initiatives and collaboration among stakeholders across the Nordic region.

At the conference, the results of Nordic Media Literacy Survey will be presented.
