The Research and Innovation Council adopted its vision and roadmap for 2030. It is committed to a vision where Finland is the most attractive and competent environment for experiment and innovation in 2030.

Achieving the vision requires common determined measures to ensure sufficient competence base and promote competence platforms, growth ecosystems and internationalisation.

- The vision and roadmap adopted by the Council were a collaboration of private and public sector operators. Making Finland the most attractive and competent environment for experiment and innovation by 2030 requires common understanding and common efforts even in the future, says Prime Minister Juha Sipilä.

Prime Minister Sipilä explains that the Council’s vision and roadmap define a common direction for Finnish research, development and innovation policies. Both short-term and long-term measures are necessary to achieve the goals. Flexibility is also needed to ensure that the vision is achieved even when the operating environment changes.

- Finland needs more experts and new kinds of skills. We need to achieve a higher level of education and competence, because it is the foundation for research and innovation,” says Minister of Education Sanni Grahn-Laasonen.

The Council highlights how important it is that Finnish research, development and innovation seek to solve global problems and respond to international demand.

- Finland can produce solutions to global challenges and benefit from international demand. To this end we must join forces with business and industry and seize the opportunities created by digitalisation and artificial intelligence,” says Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä.

The vision and roadmap are available on the website of the Research and Innovation Council.

Chaired by the Prime Minister, the Research and Innovation Council discusses matters relating to the development and co-ordination of research and innovation policy. Read more about the Research and Innovation Council at valtioneuvosto.fi/tin
