The subgroups for copyright infrastructure meet in different configurations including workshops to discuss topical issues related to practices on identifiers in the creative field, metadata, technology and infrastructure development, and legal issues linked to data and IP. 29.11.2021 | The Ministry of Education and Culture has allocated a total of EUR 3 million in additional financing to six university consortia to develop their activities and to strengthen their regional and social impact. The one-off resources will be allocated from the unallocated strategy-based funding of universities for 2020.

7.2.2024 | The Ministry of Education and Culture will allocate EUR 255 million to universities for piloting new practices in doctoral education in 2024–2027. This additional funding will be allocated to 1,000 doctoral researchers who will have a three-year employment contract to complete their doctoral degree.

7.11.2022 | A recent report shows that Finnish higher education institutions still have much work to do in promoting equality for teaching and research staff. Commissioned by the Ministry of Education and Culture, the project examined how gender equality, non-discrimination and diversity in higher education communities are realised and promoted in Finnish higher education institutions. The project’s final report was published on Monday 7 November.

6.12.2016 | The focus in the OECD’s PISA 2015 Programme for International Student Assessment was on scientific literacy. In the triennial survey, Finnish 15-year-olds ranked in third place among the OECD countries in scientific literacy. Finnish students were still among the best in reading literacy, and mathematical literacy has remained unchanged. There is a lack of enthusiasm for science, however, and this is reflected in a drop in score points.

3.12.2019 | The focus in the OECD’s PISA 2018 (Programme for International Student Assessment) was on reading literacy. The survey, held every three years, again ranked Finnish 15-year-olds among top performers in reading literacy in OECD countries. Compared with 2015, Finnish students’ mathematical literacy also remained unchanged, but performance in science literacy declined.

1.9.2014 | Finland has signed a Consortium Agreement setting up a European Life Science Infrastructure for Biological Information, ELIXIR. The Consortium collectively unites member countries’ and inter-governmental organisations’ life science centres and all the expertise they manage into one European distributed research infrastructure.

11.12.2024 | The European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC) has selected the sites that will host the new European AI Factories. The AI factory consists of a supercomputer that provides world-class computing power as well as completely new data sources together with a service centre and talent pool.

2.12.2021 | Commissioned by the Ministry of Education and Culture, the project examines how equality, non-discrimination and diversity among staff members can be promoted in Finnish higher education institutions. Based on the study, concrete proposals for measures will be developed for higher education institutions and for national policy approaches.
