12.6.2025 | The Government appointed Director Heidi Backman, M.Soc.Sc. as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Culture on 12 June. The appointment is for a five-year term beginning on 4 August 2025.

29.4.2025 | Anita Lehikoinen, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Culture, will retire on May 1, 2025.

24.11.2025 | The Nordic Baltic Youth Summit will be held in Finland for the first time. The summit participants will draft policy recommendations addressing challenges related to the green transition and youth employment and submit them to Minister of Youth, Sport and Physical Activity Mika Poutala.

16.4.2020 | Anita Lehikoinen has been reappointed to the public office of Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Culture. The Government appointed Lehikoinen, whose new term will run until the end of April 2025, on Thursday 16 April 2020.

2.3.2023 | On Thursday 2 March 2023, the Government appointed the members of the Finnish National Commission for UNESCO for the four-year term from 2 March 2023 to 31 December 2026. The Finnish National Commission for UNESCO is an expert and cooperation body providing advice on matters related to UNESCO.

28.4.2022 | The State of Finland and City of Helsinki have established a foundation for the new Museum of Architecture and Design. The nine members appointed to the Board of Directors of the Foundation for the Finnish Museum of Architecture and Design have broad expertise in financing, asset management, law, investments, activities of foundations, fields of design and work done by museums.

17.6.2021 | The Government has appointed Kimmo Levä, (MA), as Director General of the Finnish National Gallery. Levä has held various leadership positions in the museum sector since 1994. The new position runs from 1 September 2021 to 31 August 2026.

28.4.2017 | The government has on 28 April 2017 agreed on the general government finance plan for 2018-2021. The level of the allocated appropriation for the Ministry of Education and Culture is 6.3 billion euros in 2021. Additional 340 million euros will be allocated to know-how, of which 200 million will come from the budget and 140 million for education and research will be allocated as capitalisation.
