16.4.2026 | Finland will refrain from participating in the Venice Biennale at the political level if Russia takes part in the Art Exhibition. Participation will be maintained at the level of public officials. Finland emphasises its backing of Ukraine and its commitment to European cooperation.

11.3.2026 | Minister of Science and Culture Mari-Leena Talvitie has signed a joint statement from the ministers responsible for culture from 22 European countries, sent to the organisers of the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia. Allowing the Russian Federation’s participation is unacceptable, and the ministers call on the Venice Biennale to reconsider its decision.

21.4.2022 | Minister of Science and Culture Antti Kurvinen is currently visiting the 59th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. On Wednesday 20 April, Minister Kurvinen opened the Pavilion Finland which premieres Pilvi Takala’s video installation Close Watch.

20.5.2025 | The Finnish Science Award 2025 has been awarded to Johanna Ivaska, Professor of Molecular Cell Biology at the University of Turku. The multidisciplinary research group led by her focuses on research into the movement and spread of cancer cells. Ivaska’s research increases understanding of both the behaviour of cancer cells and the importance of healthy tissue in cancer treatment. The research can be used to develop new treatments to prevent the spread of cancer.

27.10.2023 | Minister of Science and Culture Sari Multala will visit New York and Los Angeles from 30 October to 3 November 2023. Her aim is to deepen cooperation between Finland and the United States in culture, science and the creative sectors. Multala will meet with leaders of local cultural institutions and businesses, visit several universities, and talk to people playing key roles in culture, science and higher education.

19.2.2014 | Finland is the guest of honour at the ARCOmadrid Contemporary Art Fair (19-23 February), which opens officially on Thursday. Minister of Culture and Sport Paavo Arhinmäki, who is visiting the fair, opened the #FocusFinland programme on Wednesday afternoon. The programme consists of exhibitions from 13 art galleries, the Kiasma Lounge and the #FocusFinland Pavilion, as well as an extensive lateral programme.
