Three titles of Academician of Arts awarded

President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö has awarded the title of Academician of Arts to playwright, theatre director, dramaturge Sirkku Peltola, composer Kaija Saariaho and performance artist Roi Vaara. The honorary title will be awarded at a ceremony to be held in Helsinki in March.

The reform of continuous learning, launched under the Government Programme, has promoted the opportunities of working-age people to improve their knowledge and skills, and increased the availability of skilled labour. The final report on the reform implementation and on the next steps was submitted on 1 March 2023 to the Members of Parliament who participated in the drafting of the parliamentary policy approaches for continuous learning.
Finnish State Award for Foreign Translators to Claire Saint-Germain

This year, the recipient of the Finnish State Award for Foreign Translators is Claire Saint-Germain, who has successfully translated Finnish literature into French. The prize, which has been awarded since 1975, is worth EUR 15,000. The Ministry of Education and Culture awards the prize annually based on a proposal by the Finnish Literature Exchange (FILI).

In a short time, the Finnish model for leisure activities has assumed its place as a meaningful provision not only for children and young people, but also for their parents and custodians, instructors and municipal decision-makers. The children themselves say that interaction and genuine engagement with the instructor are particularly important when committing to a leisure activity. Other factors that increase the attractiveness of an activity include opportunities to influence its content, the quality of the activity, a no-pressure attitude and a sense of belonging to a community. The first evaluation of the Finnish model shows that a leisure activity that is enjoyable and free of charge has a positive impact on children's equality and school life.

Ministry of Education and Culture
The Ministry of Education and Culture is responsible for the development of education, science, cultural, sport and youth policies. The administrative branch of the Ministry of Education and Culture comprises 13 agencies, including Finnish National Agency for Education, Academy of Finland and Arts Promotion Centre Finland.

International cooperation
In international affairs, the Ministry participates in the work of major international organisations and regional councils, implements programmes and initiatives nationally and supports cultural cooperations and expatriate activities.
