Minister Kosonen to attend Education, Youth, Culture and Sport Council meeting

Minister of Science and Culture Hanna Kosonen will chair the Education, Youth, Culture and Sport Council meeting in Brussels on 21–22 November. The meeting will focus on culture and sustainable development, the competitiveness of the audiovisual sector, combating corruption in sport, safe sport for children and young people, education and training of youth workers, and digital youth work. Culture and sport are on the agenda on 21 November and youth affairs on 22 November.

The ministers will discuss the competitiveness of the European audiovisual sector and are expected to adopt conclusions on combating corruption in sport and on good governance in sport, safe sport for children and young people, digital youth work and the competence and training of youth workers. In addition, the intention is to adopt a Council Resolution on the role of culture in promoting sustainable development.

In addition to the meeting, the programme includes a lunch session for the ministers of sport on Thursday, with a view to discussing the future of the European model of sport. Friday’s programme includes an informal mobility forum between youth ministers (trio countries Romania, Finland and Croatia) and youth affairs representatives.

Education, Youth, Culture and Sport Council (EYCS)

The policy areas covered by the EYCS Council are the responsibility of member states. The EU’s role in areas of education, youth, culture and sport is therefore to provide a framework for cooperation between member states, for exchange of information and experience on areas of common interest.

The EU’s actions in the areas of education, youth, culture and sport seek to preserve Europe’s cultural heritage, support its cultural and creative industries, encourage mobility of students and teachers and promote physical activity and social inclusion through sport.
