Meet us at the Educa Fair!
After a COVID-induced hiatus, the Educa Fair is being held once again at Messukeskus Helsinki on 27–28 January. The Ministry of Education and Culture’s stand can be found in area 6n60. Minister of Education Li Andersson, Minister of Science and Culture Petri Honkonen and Permanent Secretary Anita Lehikoinen will be visiting the Ministry's stand on both days of the fair.
The Ministry of Education and Culture’s theme for this year’s fair is Finland, Home of Competence, Education, Culture and Innovation. This title is based on the current Government Programme, and we will be presenting the reforms and projects that we have carried out during the government's term.
Minister of Education Li Andersson will open the fair on the Visio stage on Friday at 10:30 am. Minister Andersson will be available at the Ministry’s stand on Friday at 3:30–4:15 pm and on Saturday at 1–1:30 pm.
On Friday, Minister Andersson will also participate in various debates. At 1–1:30 pm, she will hold a talk in English with Trade Union of Education chair Katarina Murto on the role of dialogue and cooperation in developing education, among other things. At 2–3:30 pm, Minister Andersson will join a bilingual panel, Lyssna på de unga – nuorten ääni kuuluviin (Giving a voice to the young) by the Timeout Foundation, which will be held in room 102. At 4:15–5 pm, Minister Andersson will participate in a talk by the Finnish Parents’ League and the Timeout Foundation on the expansion of compulsory education, the resulting youth issues, and the experiences of home and school cooperation in upper secondary education. This talk will be held in room 103.
Minister of Science and Culture Petri Honkonen will take questions from fairgoers at the Ministry’s stand on Friday at 3:30–4 pm and on Saturday at 10:30–11 am. Minister Honkonen will also hold a speech at the fair on changing the operating environment of the higher education institutions and methods for doing so. The speech will be held in room 101C on Friday at 4:10–4:25 pm.
Permanent Secretary Anita Lehikoinen will visit the Ministry’s stand on Friday at 3–3:45 pm and on Saturday at 1–2 pm. Lehikoinen will also participate in a Trade Union of Education-held international talk, Education funding, which will take place on the Equity stage on Friday at 12–12:50 pm. Lehikoinen will also participate in a talk on education’s influence in progress towards a new, ideal culture, which will be held on the Visio stage on Friday at 5:30–6:15 pm.
At the Ministry’s stand, visitors will not only get to meet with the ministers and the permanent secretary, but also leave messages for the upcoming government. Various experts will be available at the stand throughout the fair. They will be happy to share the projects that they have been a part of during this government’s term.
Educa, which is free of charge, is the largest education and training trade fair in the Nordics. The theme of this year’s fair is Future education – significance of education, training and research. For the third time, the programme includes international events, of which the Ministry of Education and Culture is a participant.
