Supply of vocational education and training in English extended from beginning of 2023

Minister of Education Li Andersson has awarded eight education providers 13 new authorisations to provide vocational education and training to complete a qualification as of 1 January 2023. The decision will expand the supply of education in English especially in the fields of cleaning and property services, accommodation, restaurant and catering services, tourism services, health and social services, and mechanical engineering and production technology. Four of the education providers were awarded their first authorisations to provide vocational qualifications.

Report: Higher education institutions need to pay attention to equality for staff members belonging to ethnic minorities

A recent report shows that Finnish higher education institutions still have much work to do in promoting equality for teaching and research staff. Commissioned by the Ministry of Education and Culture, the project examined how gender equality, non-discrimination and diversity in higher education communities are realised and promoted in Finnish higher education institutions. The project’s final report was published on Monday 7 November.

EUR 7.7 billion budget proposal for the Ministry of Education and Culture for 2023

The budget proposal for 2023 of Prime Minister Sanna Marin’s Government will continue to invest in education and culture. The budget proposal helps implement the key objectives in the Government Programme of raising the level of education and competence, bridging learning gaps and increasing educational equality. Arts and culture will be used to boost conditions and strengthen engagement in creative work. Investments in youth work will improve young people’s capabilities for acting in society and their independence, sense of community and ability to acquire related knowledge and skills. The proposed appropriations in the budget proposal for the Ministry of Education and Culture total EUR 7.7 billion.

EU Sports Ministers condemn Russian aggression against Ukraine

The EU Ministers responsible for Sports, submitted a letter to the President of the International Olympic Committee Mr Thomas Bach, have expressed their concern about the deteriorating situation in Ukraine caused by the ongoing Russian war of aggression supported by Belarus. In the letter, the Ministers reiterated the requirement to exclude Russia and Belarus from all international sports activities.

The Economic Contribution of Copyright Industries in Finland

This study covered the economic contribution of copyright or copyright industries from 2016 to 2020 in Finland. The relative contribution of all copyright industries has slightly increased during the years under examination; while in 2016 this contribution was 5.44 percent, the respective figure for 2020 was 5.69 percent.
