New vision for higher education and research for Finland

The Ministry of Education and Culture has published Bildung as a Way Forward for Finland – A vision for higher education and research for 2040, a scenario developed in collaboration with higher education institutions, decision-makers, and actors in higher education and research to guide Finland’s future direction. The vision, published on 15 June 2026, sets out objectives for higher education and research, as well as for Finland as a whole, and proposes a range of measures to achieve these goals.

Government proposes new legislation on basic education in the arts

The Government proposes a comprehensive reform of the legislation on basic education in the arts. The aim is to clarify the structure of basic education in the arts and improve access to instruction across different art disciplines and fields. The proposal would also introduce a single syllabus and reform the criteria for central government transfers to municipalities.

Eurostudent survey provides insight into the everyday life and future expectations of higher education students

The Eurostudent 9 student survey 2025 examines the social conditions of Finnish higher education students, including their sources of income, progress in studies, employment, international mobility and plans for the future.

State Award for Public Information conferred to seven contributors to community-relevant information

Minister of Science and Culture Mari-Leena Talvitie has presented seven State Awards for Public Information in acknowledgment of the dissemination of significant public information. The award ceremony will be celebrated on 8 June in Oulu, which is a European Capital of Culture this year.

Charlotta Collén appointed Director of International Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Culture

On 4 June, the Government appointed Charlotta Collén (Lic.Soc.Sc) Director General of the Secretariat for International Relations with effect from 1 August 2026. The Director is responsible for directing the activities of the Secretariat for International Relations at the Ministry.
