New members of Research and Innovation Council appointed

The Government has appointed the new members of the Research and Innovation Council. Chaired by the Prime Minister, the Research and Innovation Council supports the Government in developing a long-term science, technology and innovation policy, monitors changes in the national and international operating environment and puts forward initiatives related to the research and innovation policy.

The Council is chaired by Prime Minister Antti Rinne. The Vice-Chairs are Minister of Science and Culture Hanna Kosonen and Minister of Economic Affairs Katri Kulmuni. The other three ministers appointed by the Government are Minister of Education Li Andersson, Minister of Justice Anna-Maja Henriksson and Minister of the Interior Maria Ohisalo.

In addition to the ministers, the Council members include Head of Early Research and Business Development Heidi Fagerholm (Merck KGaA), Dean Peppi Karppinen (University of Oulu), Academy Professor Samuel Kaski (Aalto University), Partner Ilkka Kivimäki (Maki.vc), Vice-President Petra Lundström (Fortum), Rector and President Vesa Taatila (Turku University of Applied Sciences) and President & CEO Antti Vasara (VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland). The members of the Council have a broad range of expertise in research, development and innovation.

The Research and Innovation Council’s term, which started on 10 October 2019, will run until the end of the parliamentary term.
