Minister of Youth, Sport and Physical Activity Sandra Bergqvist will travel to Kraków and attend the EU Sport Forum on 10 and 11 April. The Minister will take part in the Forum’s panel discussion, together with Ukraine’s Minister for Youth and Sports Matviy Bidny. During her visit, Bergqvist will also meet Kersti Kaljulaid, Chair of the Estonian Olympic Committee, and Glenn Micallef, European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport.

The panel discussion focuses on the theme Building bridges: the role of sport in EU enlargement. The topics raised in the discussions include how sport can be used to promote resilience and to strengthen societies in challenging times.

“Sport and physical activity play an important role in fostering the EU's common values. This has a positive effect on civil society, social cohesion, public health and sustainability. Physical activity can also contribute to bolstering crisis resilience in the EU Member States and that of future generations,” says Bergqvist.

At the meeting with Commissioner Glenn Micallef, Minister Bergqvist aims to discuss about a new long-term strategy document on the future of EU sport policy.

At the meeting between former President of Estonia and President of the Estonian Olympic Committee Kersti Kaljulaid, the topics on the agenda include ways to enhance elite sports in Estonia and ways to advance ethical and sustainable sports.
