Henna Virkkunen appointed new Minister of Education and Science

Ms Henna Virkkunen, Lic.Phil., MP (Nat. Coalition Party) was appointed Minister of Education and Science of the Vanhanen II Cabinet at the Presidential Session last Friday. At the same session, the President accepted the resignation of Sari Sarkomaa, who had asked to be relieved from her duties as Cabinet Member and Minister.

Ms Virkkunen is a first-term MP from Jyväskylä, Vice-Chair of the Coalition Party, and Chair of the Women's League of the Coalition Party. In her home town, Jyväskylä, Minister Virkkunen presides over the City Council.

Minister Virkkunen's portfolio comprises education and science policy.

Ms Heljä Misukka will continue as State Secretary and Ms Laura Rissanen as Special Advisor to the Minister.
