Finland is willing to support reconstruction efforts in Ukraine in the field of education. Readiness for this was established at a ministerial meeting in Helsinki on 11 January.

In connection with the meeting, State Secretary Mikaela Nylander and Ukraine's Deputy Minister of Education Yevhen Kudriavets signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Finnish and Ukrainian Ministries of Education. The MoU underlines the close cooperation between the two countries in areas such as the development of learning environments and teacher training, and provides a good foundation for Finland and Ukraine to further collaborate in the field of education.

Finland is well-equipped to participate in developing the education sector in Ukraine. Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs has already provided development cooperation funding to support teaching staff in Ukrainian comprehensive schools to enhance their skills and to help develop the vocational education and training sector (the Learning Together and EU4Skills projects).

A delegation from the Ministry of Education of Ukraine is visiting Helsinki on 11 and 12 January 2024. During their visit, the delegation will meet Finnish companies interested in the reconstruction of the education sector in Ukraine, learn about Finnish general upper secondary education and vocational education and training, and discuss bilateral joint projects in the field of education with various actors.
