8.4.2021 | On Thursday 8 April, the Government submitted to Parliament a report on education policy. The Education Policy Report paves the way for equitable and high-quality education in the 2040s in Finland, where skills requirements are growing and age cohorts are shrinking. 28.6.2022 | Reports related to the evaluation of elite sports launched by the Ministry of Education and Culture in autumn 2021 have been produced. The evaluation group has identified many fundamental weaknesses in the Finnish system of elite sports. 1.2.2021 | Finland proposes listing a set of 13 sites representing Alvar Aalto’s humane architecture as a cultural heritage site on the tentative list of UNESCO’s World Heritage List. 15.1.2019 | During President Niinistö’s state visit to China, Finland has been forging closer links with the Chinese cultural and audiovisual industries. As part of the President’s visit to Beijing, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed on cooperation in the fields of culture and cultural tourism. 21.11.2017 | Young people in Finland ranked in fifth place among the OECD countries that took part in the OECD’s PISA 2015 assessment on collaborative problem solving and in seventh place among all the countries and economies that participated in the assessment. 6.12.2016 | The focus in the OECD’s PISA 2015 Programme for International Student Assessment was on scientific literacy. In the triennial survey, Finnish 15-year-olds ranked in third place among the OECD countries in scientific literacy. Finnish students were still among the best in reading literacy, and mathematical literacy has remained unchanged. 14.2.2017 | The Minister of Education and Culture Sanni Grahn-Laasonen has launched vision work with the aim of defining objectives for the Finnish higher education and research until the year 2030. 28.5.2018 | The partner countries of the Northern Dimension Partnership on Culture (NDPC) have agreed to establish a common secretariat in Riga. The secretariat, established by an agreement signed on 28 May, will act as administrative and technical support in the implementation of the Partnership on Culture. 17.9.2019 | The Government will invest in knowledge and education with a financing package of approximately EUR 350 million for all levels of education. This investment will raise the level of skills and competence in Finland, make education more equitable and improve its quality, and enhance the wellbeing of children and young people.
