22.9.2023 | Anna-Maja Henriksson, the Finnish Minister of Education responsible for Nordic cooperation, handed out The Nordic Pioneers Prizes for the year 2023 in Copenhagen on September 21. The prize is awarded to four young people for their exemplary efforts in promoting equality, tolerance, and inclusivity. Shahin Ahmad from Finland was among the winners. The European Heritage Label is granted to sites, monuments, documents or events that have a particular significance for European history, culture and integration. 4.6.2020 | On 4 June 2020, the Government submitted a proposal for an act on local government trials on boosting employment. According to the proposal, certain tasks of the employment and economic development offices, which are state-run agencies, would be transferred to local governments for the duration of the trials. 18.6.2020 | The Ministry of Education and Culture is launching an extensive programme for guidance counselling to support guidance counselling in primary education, lower secondary education, general upper secondary education and vocational education and training. The survey, held every three years, again ranked Finnish 15-year-olds among top performers in reading literacy in OECD countries. 20.5.2021 | The European Capital of Culture for 2026 will be selected in Helsinki at the beginning of June. The cities of Tampere, Oulu, and Savonlinna all qualified in the first round of the competition last summer and are now shortlisted for the final selection.
