8.4.2021 | On Thursday 8 April, the Government submitted to Parliament a report on education policy. The Education Policy Report paves the way for equitable and high-quality education in the 2040s in Finland, where skills requirements are growing and age cohorts are shrinking. The report outlines the target state for education and research when moving forward to the 2040s and the necessary changes in resources, structures and guidance to achieve it.

28.6.2019 | The EU Youth Conference will bring together young people, youth workers, researchers and representatives of ministries and youth organisations from several countries to discuss youth work in Helsinki between 1 and 3 July. The Conference will have 240 participants from 28 EU Member States.

17.9.2019 | The Government will invest in knowledge and education with a financing package of approximately EUR 350 million for all levels of education. This investment will raise the level of skills and competence in Finland, make education more equitable and improve its quality, and enhance the wellbeing of children and young people. The Government agreed on the content of the budget proposal for 2020 in a budget session on Tuesday 17 September.

Finland is the first country with which China has agreed on this type of winter sports partnership. The thematic year and the preparations for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing are expected to boost Chinese interest in Finnish winter sports expertise.

The International Summit on the Teaching Profession (ISTP) is organised once a year jointly by the OECD, the global union federation of teacher organisations Education International, and the selected host country.

6.12.2016 | The focus in the OECD’s PISA 2015 Programme for International Student Assessment was on scientific literacy. In the triennial survey, Finnish 15-year-olds ranked in third place among the OECD countries in scientific literacy. Finnish students were still among the best in reading literacy, and mathematical literacy has remained unchanged. There is a lack of enthusiasm for science, however, and this is reflected in a drop in score points.

13.1.2017 | Minister of Education and Culture Sanni Grahn-Laasonen attended on Friday 13 January the opening event for the Nordic Matters series at Southbank Centre in London. The opening event for the year-long series of cultural events showcasing Nordic culture in Britain was attended by each country’s minister of culture. An unofficial ministerial meeting was also held as part of the opening event.

The most important task of vocational education and training will be to produce individual skills that meet the needs of students and working life. The Finnish Government proposed on 10 August that the President of the Republic adopt the new Act on Vocational Education and Training.

30.11.2017 | The National Memorial to the Winter War was unveiled at Kasarmitori square in Helsinki on 30 November 2017. With this memorial, Finland expresses appreciation for the valuable input of veterans and everyone else who participated in the war efforts. The last day of November was selected as the day of unveiling the memorial, as this was the day when the Winter War broke out in 1939. The memorial is also part of the Finland 100 festivities.
