21.11.2017 | Young people in Finland ranked in fifth place among the OECD countries that took part in the OECD’s PISA 2015 assessment on collaborative problem solving and in seventh place among all the countries and economies that participated in the assessment. This is the first time that collaborative problem-solving skills were assessed.

31.10.2017 | The Minister of Education and Culture has set a National Literacy Forum to challenge the declining literacy and people’s willingness to read The Forum is tasked to draft guidelines to develop children’s literacy and interest in reading. The Forum gathers experts on literacy and other parties involved with the issue. An appropriation of one million euros is granted to the Literacy Forum.

13.12.2017 | Professor, Vice Rector Riitta Pyykkö submitted a report on the current state and development needs of Finland’s language reserve to Minister of Education Sanni Grahn-Laasonen on 13 December. The report, drawn up by Professor Pyykkö, covers the entire Finnish education system and proposes an array of measures that should be taken to develop Finnish people’s language skills so that they would meet the future needs.

The Flagship Programme’s third call focused on collaboration between research teams and the business sector, and also on high-quality research with impact and the capacity for renewal. The Finnish Flagship decisions are part of the implementation of the new flexible partnership model of the Government’s RDI roadmap.

17.6.2019 | Professor Heli Jantunen of the University of Oulu is the winner of the Finnish Science Award 2019. The award is granted by the Ministry of Education and Culture based on a proposal of the Academy of Finland. It was presented by Minister of Science and Culture Annika Saarikko during the Science Forum on Monday 17 June.
