3.9.2013 | An international evaluation of the Academy of Finland commissioned by the Ministry of Education and Culture has been completed. The evaluation considers the Academy successful in its mission to finance high-quality scientific research and that the portfolio of funding instruments meets the expressed needs of the Finnish research community. The evaluation panel recommends a more active role for the Academy in science policy.

10.8.2020 | The European expert panel has published its pre-selection report on the applications of the three candidate cities Oulu, Savonlinna and Tampere and suggestions for the second and decisive phase. According to the letter sent by Minister of Science and Culture Annika Saarikko, the cities should revise and complete their applications by 23 April 2021. The expert panel will visit the cities in May 2021.

21.8.2018 | A report recommends that a new world-class museum of architecture and design be established in Helsinki. The report commissioned by the Ministry of Education and Culture, the City of Helsinki, the foundation for the Design Museum and the foundation for the Museum of Finnish Architecture and the Architecture Information Centre was submitted to Sampo Terho, Minister for European Affairs, Culture and Sport, and Jan Vapaavuori, Mayor of Helsinki, on 21 August.

13.4.2022 | The Government proposes amendments to the Copyright Act and the Act on Electronic Communication Services. The legislative amendments bring the provisions of Finnish legislation in line with the European Union's Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market and the Directive on online transmissions of broadcasting organisations. The transposition of these directives is the most significant reform of national copyright legislation in two decades.

27.2.2024 | This year, the recipient of the Finnish State Award for Foreign Translators is Maima Grīnberga (b. 1969), who has been translating Finnish literature into Latvian with distinction. The prize, which has been awarded since 1975, is worth EUR 15,000. The Ministry of Education and Culture awards the prize annually based on a proposal by the Finnish Literature Exchange (FILI).
